Biofilm – monitoring and testing for residual organic matter after your cleaning process

Safety through verifiable cleaning results

As part of the HACCP hazard analysis and in accordance with the requirements of the IFS Food Standard, it is necessary to regularly verify the effectiveness of cleaning processes. The documentation and verification of cleaning results are becoming increasingly important.

Rising standards for hygiene, product safety, and process optimization make it necessary not only to carry out cleaning procedures but also to objectively demonstrate their success. At the same time, regular monitoring provides an opportunity to further develop existing processes in a targeted manner and optimize them on an ongoing basis.

Our solution:
Verification using color-changing technology

For testing, we use a proven two-component technology that makes organic deposits visible and enables a reproducible assessment of cleaning performance.

The method is based on an activated oxidation process:

  • An oxidizing agent (Component 1) is activated by alkalinity (Component 2) at approximately 50°C.
  • Organic compounds such as product residues or biofilms are broken down through oxidation.
  • During this process, the indicator reacts with a visible color change from violet through blue/green to yellow.
  • The intensity of the color indicates whether organic residues are present and to what extent.

The results enable a quick and transparent assessment of the cleanliness of your equipment.

Effective inspection of your process equipment

This technology allows for targeted inspection of critical areas within piping, tanks, valve assemblies, or other process components. The inspection is conducted after the cleaning process is complete and provides valuable information about the actual cleaning effectiveness.

This verification helps identify weak points early on and uncover opportunities for optimization within the cleaning process.

Your benefits

With our support, you’ll not only receive a snapshot of your cleaning performance, but also concrete recommendations for sustainably optimizing your processes.

Objective inspection of your process systems for organic deposits and potential biofilm residues after cleaning is complete.

All results are documented in a traceable manner and can be used as a basis for internal audits, HACCP plans, and quality and hygiene certifications.

The insights gained enable targeted adjustments to cleaning parameters such as time, temperature, chemical concentration, or flow conditions.

Early identification of weak points helps reduce hygiene risks and enhances the long-term safety of your production processes.

Verifying cleaning processes provides objective evidence of the effectiveness of your cleaning. It supports compliance with legal requirements and relevant standards and provides a solid foundation for modern hygiene management.
