High-quality dairy products

The demands for hygiene, product quality, and cost-effectiveness in the dairy and food industries are constantly increasing. That is why we support our customers with customized cleaning concepts for filtration and membrane systems, as well as by optimizing existing cleaning processes.

In doing so, we consider the entire cleaning system as an interplay of plant technology, cleaning chemicals, and operational procedures. Together with our partners, we develop practical solutions that enhance process reliability, conserve resources, and contribute to the long-term cost-effectiveness of your production.

Membrane filtration - Sensitivity & proper cleaning

Membrane filtration systems play a central role in the dairy industry, for example in ultrafiltration, microfiltration, and nanofiltration. They are used for the fractionation of milk proteins, lactose removal, and whey processing. Thorough cleaning is essential to ensure that these systems operate efficiently.

In dairies, membranes come into contact with various milk components that can cause deposits:

  • Milk proteins: Form stubborn deposits that reduce membrane flux
  • Fats: Can clog membrane pores and reduce filtration performance
  • Minerals & Limescale: Cause scaling (deposits), especially at high temperatures
  • Biofouling: Microorganisms can colonize the membrane if cleaning is not thorough enough

Since the dairy processing industry is subject to the highest hygiene standards, effective CIP (Cleaning in Place) is essential. The cleaning process consists of several steps:

  1. Pre-rinse: Removes loose debris with water
  2. Alkaline cleaning: Dissolves milk proteins and fats
  3. Acidic cleaning: Removes limescale and mineral deposits
  4. Disinfection: Eliminates microorganisms to prevent bacterial growth
  5. Rinsing: Ensures residue-free membranes and prepares them for the next use

A well-maintained membrane ensures the highest product quality, a longer service life, and efficient production.

  • Regular monitoring of pH, temperature, and pressure
  • Use of food-grade cleaning agents
  • Optimized cleaning cycles to remove deposits early on
  • Prefiltration to reduce solids in the milk
